Adding Grocery Options to the Neighborhood

Like many of you, I go to the Brentwood Giant but we need closer grocery options. Earlier ANC commissioners actually opposed grocery projects for not being whatever grocery store they've wanted. Instead, I've worked with my colleagues and with developers to include all options in current and future housing projects: everything from neighborhood bodegas to full-size grocery stores.

• September 2023: I voted for ANC5F-25-056 which negotiated the inclusion of a grocery store in the future second phase of the Bryant Street development.

• June 2024: I voted for ANC5F-25-098 which approved Commissioner Aru Sahni's negotiation of transportation matters and a liquor license for a new Trader Joe's in Edgewood, allowing them to move more quickly on opening this new grocery store. Trader Joe's opened on May 15, 2025.

• October 2025: After the new owners of Mac's Liquor and Wines began stocking grocery items and requested an extension of operating hours, I sponsored ANC5F-26-056 which approved extended hours.
